Lufthansa places firm order for 40 737-MAX 8s

Lufthansa has today placed a firm order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, as well as taking options on 60 more, as part of a wider deal that will expand the company to new highs. This order marks the groups first purchase for MAX jets.

Lufthansa's narrowbody fleet currently consists of Airbus A220 and A320 jets as the last of their 737's were phased out in 2016. The 737 MAX 8s, powered by CFM leap engines, are scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2027. Lufthansa has also placed an order for 40 A220-300s, to be depolyed at their Lufthansa City Airlines Unit.
