FAA calls for older Boeing jets to be inspected

The US airline regulator, the FAA, has called for older Boeing 737-900ER aircraft to be inspected, amid the mid-flight door blowout crisis. The administration said late on Sunday that as "an added layer of safety", they are recommending all operators of these aircraft to conduct visual inspections of the mid exit door plugs. Note, this is not a requirement, but a recommendation.

The 737-900ER is an earlier version of the affected 737 MAX 9, currently under scrutiny. The investigation of this incident continues but the investigation has raised questions around Boeing's quality control processes.
