A Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet has crashed on the Interstate 75, in Florida, in the early hours of this morning.
Around 15:15 local time, a Bombardier business jet crashed on to the I75 in Florida, killing two. The flight crew declared a mayday as power had been lost in both engines - they had attempted to make an emergency landing at Naples Airport in Florida but were not able to make it there successfully.
Five people were onboard the aircraft. Three people managed to escape however unfortunately two were pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that the plane collided with a vehicle on the ground, before slamming into the side wall of the I75.
The FAA and NTSB will investigate.
Early indications show that the pilots radioed to declare a mayday with a dual engine failure, just prior to the accident. It is currently unknown what caused this and the NTSB has mentioned on Friday that it will not comment on an ongoing investigation. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone on the ground was injured as a result.
The aircraft departed from the Ohio State University Airport in Columbus, Ohio, destined for Naples Airport in Florida. The plane crashed about two miles from the airport.
The plane was not affiliated with the Ohio State University. It was registered to company named Hop-A-Jet Worldwide Jet Charter, a private jet company based in Fort Laurderdale, Florida. The aircraft had a max capacity of 12 passengers.
Our thoughts go those involved.
