Airbus and Cathay Pacific Cargo announces the order of six A350F's to join the airlines cargo division - equating to an estimated $2.7bn.

Cathay Cargo currently operates a freighter fleet of 20, all aircraft being Boeing. Airbus says this order will become a central element in Cathay's future fleet, bringing new levels of efficiency to the airline.

The A350F is currently under development and can carry a payload of up to 111 tonnes, with a maximum range of 4,700NM. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the aircraft is expected to bring a reduction in carbon emissions of up to 40%, compared with the Boeing 747F.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027, demonstrating Cathay's confidence in a growing cargo market.
